While some students and teachers wrap up the end of an academic unit with an essay or exam, two classrooms of lucky second and third graders at Drexel Elementary School wrapped up their latest lessons with some high-energy celebrations.
Last week, second graders in Jennifer Lyon's class ended their unit on bugs, insects and ecology with a Bug Bash, inviting their family members in for an afternoon of creepy-crawly related activities, including sticker bug jar art, making edible dirt cup desserts, building their own bug faces and antennas and showcasing small science and art projects.
And, in Carmen Venegas' third-grade classroom, students wrapped up their unit on studying the solar system by showcasing their own takes on the planets and space by showcasing their own outer space projects, featuring descriptions of the planets, playing with the dimensions of the planets and their distance from one another, and comparing and contrasting how classmates interpreted planetary colors.
At Drexel, students and teachers proved that learning can be anything but boring — no matter if the lessons take place under ground or out of this world!
