🎶 FROM FIRST NOTES TO STANDING OVATIONS: D99 STUDENTS DELIVER UNFORGETTABLE SPRING PERFORMANCES 🎺

Posted Date: 05/20/26 (03:09 PM)

There's something special that happens when a student picks up an instrument for the very first time.

At first, it's just a few uncertain notes... a shaky rhythm... a quiet voice learning to sing. But with dedication, encouragement, and heart, those small beginnings grow into something extraordinary.

This spring, Cicero District 99's Fine Arts Program brought our community together through unforgettable end-of-the-year performances that showcased the incredible talent, passion, and growth of our students. From powerful band performances and beautiful choir concerts, to vibrant folklórico dancing and stunning student artwork, the creativity on display was nothing short of inspiring.

Hundreds of students across District 99 took the stage and reminded us all why the arts matter.

One of the greatest points of pride in D99 is our elementary band program. Every year, hundreds of 4th-6th grade students from schools across the district choose to challenge themselves, learn teamwork, build confidence, and discover the joy of music. What makes it even more amazing is watching those same students continue to grow year after year — reaching Unity Junior High sounding polished, confident, and truly professional.

That growth doesn't happen by accident.

It happens because of passionate educators who pour their hearts into their students every single day. We are especially grateful to our incredible band directors for inspiring generations of young musicians and creating opportunities that students will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

And this year, we give a very special thank you to Ms. Nancy DeLadesmo as she celebrates her final year directing band before retirement. Her dedication, patience, leadership, and love for music have impacted countless students and families throughout Cicero District 99. They legacy she leaves behind will continue  to echo through every performance, every rehearsal, and every student who found confidence through music because of her guidance.

In District 99, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to explore the arts. Students can begin their musical journey in Beginning Band, advance to Intermediate Band, and continue into Advanced Band at Unity Junior High — all while being provided a FREE instrument to use so every student has the opportunity to participate.

The arts don't just teach music. They teach discipline. They teach confidence. They teach teamwork. They create memories. They create belonging.

Most importantly, they help students discover who they are.

To all of our students, staff, families, and supporters: thank you for making this year's spring concerts and fine arts showcases such a tremendous success. Your talent, passion, and hard work made our stages shine brighter than ever.

The future of Fine Arts in District 99 is strong — and after seeing these performances, we know the best is still yet to come.
