❤️ NOBODY ELSE DOES THIS: CICERO GIVES EVERY STUDENT A FREE BACK-TO-SCHOOL HEALTH CHECK IN ONE STOP! 👩⚕️
What does it look like when a community truly invests in its children?
It looks a lot like yesterday.
A huge THANK YOU to Town of Cicero President Larry Dominick, the Board of Trustees, and the entire Cicero Health Department staff for once again hosting their annual Back to School Health Fair at the Cicero Community Center.
Year after year, this event operates like a well-oiled machine, providing families with a true one-stop shop to help students get ready for the first day of school. Best of all, it's 100% FREE.
Students received:
🩺 School & Sports Physicals
🦷 Dental Exams
👁️ Vision Tests
💇 Haircuts
🩸 Lead Screenings
💉 Up-to-date vaccinations
But what makes this event so special is that it doesn't just check boxes — it creates an experience.
The gym is filled with community organizations and vendors providing valuable resources, helpful information, and plenty of free giveaways. Families enjoy free popcorn and popsicles, exciting raffle prizes, bounce houses, outdoor activities, and visits from favorites like the Chick-fil-A Cow and Sparky the Fire Dog. Instead of feeling like another appointment, it feels like a community celebration.
Yes, the lines can get a little long at times. But when you stop and think about it, that's a small price to pay compared to trying to schedule multiple appointments at different offices, hoping each one has availability before school starts. Here, everything families need is conveniently available under one roof, in one day, at absolutely no cost.
Events like this don't happen by accident. They require months of planning, coordination, dedicated staff, volunteers, healthcare professionals, community partners, and a genuine commitment to serving others. It takes an entire team working behind the scenes so thousands of students can walk into school healthy, prepared, and ready to learn.
The truth is, this isn't something you see in most communities. Many families across the country have to spend weeks coordinating appointments, taking time off work, driving from office to office, and worrying about the cost. Here in Cicero, our families are blessed with a community that comes together to remove those barriers and make life a little easier.
That is something worth celebrating.
To everyone who helped make this year's Back to School Health Fair another incredible success — thank you. Your hard work, generosity, and dedication make a real difference in the lives of our students and their families.
Cicero continues to set the standard for what a community can accomplish when it puts families first.
