๐ฆ LEARNING IS A FAMILY AFFAIR AT LINCOLN! ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ

Something special happens when families step inside their children's classrooms. They don't just get a glimpse of what their students are learning โ they become part of the learning experience!
That was the spirit at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School last week as families of first, fifth, and sixth graders, along with AIP students, were welcomed into classrooms for the school's first Parent/Student Learning Activity Day of the school year!
From exploring history and tackling hands-on science and math challenges to strengthening reading skills through guided activities, students and their loved ones had the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and make memories together.
But the real magic of mornings like these goes far beyond the activities themselves.
Across Cicero District 99, schools are finding meaningful ways to turn half-days into opportunities for something incredibly important: bringing home and school closer together.
When parents and family members have the opportunity to experience learning alongside their children, they gain a better understanding of what's happening in the classroom, the skills their children are developing and the ways they can support that learning at home. At the same time, students get to see something powerful: the people who matter most to them taking an active interest in their education.
That connection matters! Strong family-school partnerships can help improve academic achievement, build student confidence, encourage positive attitudes toward learning and remind children that their success is a shared priority.
And here's another beautiful part of these experiences: Even when a student's own family members can't attend, the classroom still benefits from the extra encouragement, collaboration and caring adults who come through its doors. It's a reminder that a supportive school community can make a difference for every child.
To our District 99 families: If your schedule allows, consider making time for opportunities like these when your child's school extends an invitation! We know that work, family responsibilities and busy schedules don't always make daytime visits possible, and there are many meaningful ways to support your child's education. But when you can join us, these experiences offer something that can't always be captured in a homework folder or a report card โ the chance to see your child learning, growing and discovering new things right before your eyes.
Sometimes, one morning spent in a classroom can spark conversations at the dinner table, create new ways to practice skills at home and give a child a memory they'll carry long after the school day ends.
Because when schools open their doors to families, they're doing more than inviting visitors into a building. They're building partnerships, strengthening communities and showing students that education is something we all share.
And at Lincoln, that partnership was on full display last week!ย
