INNOVATION, RESEARCH PROJECTS CLOSE OUT THE FIRST QUARTER 📓🏫

Posted Date: 10/20/26 (11:19 AM)

As the first quarter of the school year comes to a close today, students from grades pre-K through eight are spending the day reflecting on all of the learning that's taken place so far — analyzing information taken in and even being tasked with end-of-quarter exams to test their knowledge.

While final grades may be due today, that doesn't mean that all learning from these past several weeks will not carry into the next quarter!

Last week at Goodwin, second graders from Victoria Bauman's class took on the challenge of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" with their TCI science curriculum unit, "How Can Materials Be Reused?" Through the lesson, students had the opportunity to work alongside their families to reuse everyday materials at home to make something new, collecting materials for repurposing like water bottles, paper, cardboard and excess craft supplies, making one-of-a-kind creations including piggy banks, cars, toys and more. Finding new ways to reuse old household items and mundane objects teaches students that waste reduction, creative problem solving and engineering, the value of observation and environmental stewardship first starts with the small steps even kids can make!

On the other side of the creative research end, sixth graders at Wilson recently gave  special media presentations to their peers on self-selected subjects which they spent the entire first quarter studying, analyzing and preparing for concluding reports. With research presentations given on the history of animals like dachshunds, red foxes and turtles to pop culture icons like Billie Eilish and Cristiano Ronaldo, sixth graders really let their passions and interests shine through their digital research!
